Corner House prevention programs reach thousands of public and private school students in Princeton and the surrounding communities each year. Our prevention programs, designed to be age-appropriate, fun and educational, stress:
- Healthy decision-making skills
- Coping techniques
- Positive self-image
- Substance abuse refusal skills for everyday living
Prevention Philosophy
At Corner House we strive to turn the challenges of adolescence into opportunities for growth. We recognize that young people face difficult decisions as they transition through important phases of development and need the tools necessary to help them make healthy choices and lead productive lives. Our prevention programs stress positive self-image, strategies for dealing with peer pressure, effective decision-making and coping techniques, and substance abuse refusal skills.
Student Leadership Programs
Corner House’s flagship student leadership programs offer valuable opportunities to the student/peer facilitators, as well as the group participants, and reinforce positive role modeling and social skills development. Every summer, Corner House sponsors a Student Leadership Institute to prepare student leaders for the upcoming school year with team building activities, leadership skills development, and substance abuse prevention education. In 2008, the Harriet Robertson Student Leadership Award was established and will be presented annually by Corner House to, "an outstanding high school senior who possesses the capacity to lead and the ability to positively influence others."
Student Leader Pledge
| "We, the 2008-09 Corner House Student Leaders, pledge, as a group, to serve as role models to the student community and to encourage others to do the same. We pledge to maintain and exemplify and alcohol- and drug-free lifestyle. We also pledge to lead a life demonstrative of acceptance of all people regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and beliefs. We will demonstrate our commitment to being a unified Corner House Student Leadership Team through honest, open-minded communication and leadership through example." |
